Gong Xi Fa Cai
Hey guys, long time no see! I've been preparing something special; in the spirit of the New Year and all things new, I've created a new blog layout! How do you like it? I hope it's not too girly...
I've been super busy lately, as I'm sure you all have too, with Chinese New Year!
Preparing decorations and cooking snacks with my family, running from house to house, eating and gambling and eating and gambling and eating and gambling...
Now its monday, people are getting back to work, and I have a bit of time to update. How has your CNY been? One of the good things about CNY time is that there is hardly any traffic on the roads! I feel like i'm in another country when we can smoothly sail through the highways into the city.
I love CNY, its the best and funnest time to come to Malaysia. I've been celebrating CNY here in Malz since 2007, so i'm no NOOB ok!!! What I love most about it is the real 'family together' feeling, going around and visiting everyone's houses and everyone being really happy, and erm... eating those stupid killing ngaku chips. My house is in full
My new skill - making ang pow fish! Ill do a blog to teach you guys later!
There has been heaps of fireworks around the neighborhood, at all times of the day for the past week. But remember kids, don't throw fireworks at vacant patches of land and grass... yeh... hahaha. Our neighbours even got those super proper fireworks, the colorful ones that shoot up in the sky. Some stuff fell down and landed on me but I'm still alive so its ok! Everyone is realy excited, even the dogs are excited!
On the first day of CNY we wear our new clothes and everyone looks new and sparkly. I was super excited to wear my new red dress, which is kinda Chinese-y style (but not really). FYI I got it from Pink Evils Fashion Supermarket (1U, MidValley, Pavilion), the only sucky thing is that when I (carefully, in cold water) hand washed it heaps of the red colour bleed out of the lining and turned the white part of the dress pink -_-).
During CNY we visit family and have lots of family dinners. I think we're going for another family dinner tonight. It's good though coz we don't get to see them that often (well I don't anyway). Often during Chinese New Year dinners the first course is this traditional thing called Yee Sang. Its a plate of mixed grated things, and some crunchy things, sometimes some creepy seafoods and some sweetish sauces over the top. It's placed in the middle of the table, then everyone takes their chopsticks and mixes it up together, and it symbolizes prosperity (maybe??). I like it, especially the crunchy bits, but not the gross scary raw seafood bits.
Most non KL-ites go back to their hometown, leaving it free for us to rock the city! Lucky for me most of my friends are proper KL kids, so most of our group is still here in KL over the break. It would be super boring if only 2 or 3 of us were still here and everyone else had left. That means more houses to visit, more boring gambling and more ang pow (woohoo!). Everywhere you go you do the same thing; drink sugary drinks, eat fried snacks and gamble. I like two of the three, hehe. And the best part about being a kid? Duhh...
We love our Aunty's!

ps- cute fish!
It's not just about eating and gambling, it's about family members which we haven't seen for ages to gather again. Fireworks is nice to see but when it's too loud, it's no fun.
ReplyDeleteLucky for us it lasts 15 days, so the celebrations go on and on and on...
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to tomorrow night! (the 9th day)
